the On/OFF button is complete broken and will not Turn the drive ON or OFF. So i borrow the one from the dad after mine drive stop working.
It is pure junk. I had this drive for less than two month when one day it just stoped working.
Please i beg you DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE. I got two drive when i purchased it, one for me one for my dad.
The drive will turn on but the On button will not stop flashing. I lost all my files on the drive.
Then i discovered the drive i got for my dad is also BROKEN. SO PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BUY.I used to think Western digital is a decent brand, but after this i will NEVER buy another WD product.
Now, I am sitting on this darn thing, and try to reformat it, maybe it will fix it, but I am pretty sure, that as soon as my husband finds out, that I am wasting my whole night on this thing, he is just gonna grab this Mybook-thing and throws it out the window. First of all, it takes forever, for any computer (doesnt matter on my pc or laptop -> not a computer issue) to show "mybook" under the MYCOMPUTER menu. Starts up very very slow. After 1 year, it started to give me errors and nothing went on it or off the harddrive. With those words, you can tell : I HATE IT and cant wait to buy me a new one, but surely it wont be WD Mybook again. I just cry for all my data's that are on this thing.
Of note, it just sits in one place and is not moved around much, so I can't comment on how it stands up to abuse. When I say it is slow, what I mean is that it seems to spin down when not in use and - when being accessed for the first time in a few hours - it can take 10-15 seconds to respond. I have been using this as a backup drive for a couple of years. It is not the fastest thing I have ever encountered, but it has proven reliable. Once it "wakes up" the speed seems the same as any internal drive. Also, it is quiet.I wish it could just get power from USB and not require a power brick and that it had network ability, but that is really a different product.
THIS DRIVE DOEsNT WORK this drive will install flawlessly then after some time it wont show up youll get no drive letter and no way to recover. Google the phrase external drive doesnt show on my computer and you will see post after post and noone knows how to fix it I bought mine 6 months ago after one week it was mia and as of 11/9/2009 noone has a solution DONT BUY IT get a seagate similar price and after 6 months not 1 problem knock on wood
Like some of the reviews. I have over 450gb of files, pictures, and home movies that I think are lost. I was very happy until last night when I tried to access the hard drive. I received the error, that it was not formatted and needed to be so. I used it as a back up now the back up is fried. Please read all the reviews before you put your files, functionality, fate into this flounder.
